Challenge
In 2018, two sisters came to us with a brilliantly simple frustration: odd socks.
They wanted to solve that age-old laundry mystery while also offering a more sustainable alternative to throwaway fashion.
The idea was clever, practical and instantly relatable. But at that stage, it was still just an idea.
No finished product.
No brand identity.
No technical method.
No production route.
They challenged us to help create the brand identity and develop what would become the world’s first Popasox: socks designed to stay paired together using patented popper technology.
Simple idea? Yes.
Simple to manufacture? Obviously not, because where would the fun be?
The
Solution
We started by helping shape the brand and product direction, creating a fresh, playful sock concept with bright designs and a clear point of difference.
But the real work was in the technical development.
The popper attachment had to be positioned precisely so the socks could fasten together properly without affecting comfort, stretch, durability or everyday wear.
That meant testing the exact placement, attachment method and construction repeatedly until the product worked as intended.
The biggest challenge was that standard sock factories are set up to produce socks on circular knitting machines. They are not usually set up to attach poppers with lock-stitch machinery.
So we had to train the factory, develop the correct method and work through the practical details needed to make a completely new sock concept production-ready.
There was a lot of trial, testing and adjustment behind what looked like a beautifully simple finished product.
Eventually, after a rigorous testing process, the design technology was patented under Patent Number GB2574242.
The final Popasox product was soft, comfortable, durable and genuinely useful. Customers could simply pop the socks together before washing, helping them stay paired and reducing the mystery of the permanently missing sock.
A small product innovation, but one that solved a very real everyday problem.

We helped Popasox turn a founder-led idea into a patented, production-ready sock innovation with a clear commercial purpose and a very satisfying little “pop”.
